The First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria (the Assembly) is the voice of Aboriginal people in Victoria in the next stage of the Treaty process. It is made up of Victorian Traditional Owners, elected by Aboriginal Communities, for Aboriginal Communities, to advance our rights, interests and benefits.
Our mandate is to work with the State to establish Treaty processes that recognise our sovereignty as the First Peoples of Victoria, support self-determination, and realise our human rights, to make Victoria stronger for everyone.

We are seeking expressions of interest for a three month contract as a Community Engagement Officer in the North West region.
The Community Engagement team at the Assembly is responsible for servicing and connecting the Assembly to Victorian Aboriginal Communities and assisting Members to engage. This includes implementing the regional engagement strategy, media and social media support and keeping Community informed about Treaties and the progress of the Assembly.
The Community Engagement Officer is responsible for regionally focused engagement with Victorian Aboriginal Communities in order to determine the future process for Treaties, as well as promoting enrolment and encouraging participation in Assembly elections and activity.
Your previous experience and skill set includes
- Comprehensive knowledge of Victorian Aboriginal Communities
- Experience working with the Victorian Aboriginal Community
- Solid communication skills
- Strong influencing skills
- Working to challenging deadlines and following a plan
- Being well organised
- A collaborative and respectful approach
- Being a creative problem solver.
- Familiarity with the MS Office suite
