On the journey towards Treaty, First Peoples need to be in the driver’s seat at every turn.
The First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria is the democratic body representing Traditional Owners of Country in Victoria and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who have lived here for at least three of the last five years.
We’re holding a by-election from 26 February to 27 March to fill a general seat – recently vacated by Nartarsha Bamblett – to represent the North-East region.
Find out more about the North East By-election, including how to nominate as a candidate, via the button below.
Nominations will open on 17 January and close on the 7 February.
The voting period will run from 26 February to 27 March.
In preparation for the by-election, there’s four things you can do to help:
- Help community build a powerful voice – enroll
There’s strength in numbers! If you’re not enrolled, or you know someone who isn’t, join us. Our electoral roll is exactly that – ours. It was made by First Peoples, for First Peoples. And we’re stronger when we join together. Enroll or find out more here. By joining our electoral roll (or updating your details if you’re already on the roll – see below) you’ll automatically go in the draw for a $500 gift voucher for Clothing the Gaps!
- Check your details
Please make sure your enrolment details up to date by visiting our website here. By doing so you’ll go into the draw for a $500 gift voucher for Clothing the Gaps.
- Consider representing your people
If you’ve ever thought about standing for election to the Assembly yourself, now’s your chance! More info will be posted above soon.
- Tell us if you need to postal vote
Submitting your vote by post is an option, so please contact us on 1800-TREATY (1800 873 289) if you would like us to send your ballot paper in the post.
Treaty is our opportunity to secure structural change to improve the lives of our people and make sure we always have the freedom and power to make the decisions that affect our communities, our culture, and our Country.
Nothing is off the table, so we need to think big and push hard!
