The Assembly

The First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria (the Assembly) is the voice of Aboriginal people in Victoria in the next stage of the Treaty process. It is made up of Victorian Traditional Owners, elected by Aboriginal Communities, for Aboriginal Communities, to advance our rights, interests and benefits.

Our mandate is to work with the State to establish Treaty processes that recognise our sovereignty as the First Peoples of Victoria, support self-determination, and realise our human rights, to make Victoria stronger for everyone. Walk with us and make history!

The Role

The Community Engagement team at the Assembly is responsible for servicing and connecting the Assembly to Victorian Aboriginal Communities and assisting Members to engage. This includes the planning and development of a regional engagement strategy, media and social media support and keeping Community informed about Treaties and the progress of the Assembly.

Reporting to the Senior Engagement Adviser and part of a small team, the Regional Engagement Officer is responsible for regionally focused engagement with local Aboriginal Communities in their region in order to determine the future process for Treaties.

We are looking to appoint Regional Engagement Officers to work with Community in the five Assembly regions: North West Victoria; South West Victoria; North East Victoria; South East Victoria; and Melbourne Metropolitan.

In addition, this role is responsible for promoting enrolment and encouraging participation in Assembly elections and activity.You will be an integral part of the team working with Victorian Aboriginal Communities in supporting negotiations with the State Government on the Victorian Treaty process.

Salary range: $85,000 – $97,000
