A historic moment as Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan appeared at Yoorrook.
Yoorrook is Australia’s first formal Truth-telling process, and in a historic appearance Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan faced questions from the Commission about Truth, justice and Treaty.
Among acknowledgements of the many injustices that have happened in this State, Allan further acknowledged that education is a key step forward in creating a fairer future.
Co-chair Rueben Berg welcomed the Premier’s appearance at the Commission. He was particularly heartened by comments surrounding Yoorrook’s work to create a broader understanding of First Peoples in Victoria.
“Education and truth-telling are so important. They are what bring about understanding and respect, so we can build a better future together as equals.
Rueben Berg
We want our stories told, our truths known and understood, but it’s also about making sure everyone who calls Victoria home can connect with the oldest living culture in the world. We want to be able to celebrate that together.”
The work that the Yoorrook does is integral to Treaty making and will inform some of the elements that we bring to the table in the upcoming Treaty negotiations.
